What is Micro Needling?
Micro Needling is a treatment that allows controlled induction of the skin’s self repair mechanism by creating micro injuries in the skin, which triggers new collagen development. The result is smoother, firmer, younger looking skin.
What are the side effects of Micro Needling?
After the procedure, the skin will be red and flushed like a sunburn. You will experience skin tightness and sensitivity to touch this will diminish over the first 24 hours. The following is typical of a treatment:
Day 1: very red
Day 2: bright P ink- can be covered by mineral make-up
Day 3: Pink -can be covered by mineral make-up
Day 4: flushed- can be covered by mineral make-up
You may also experience some amount of peeling and flaking. Most side effects resolve in 4-5 days.
What parts of the body can be treated with Micro Needling?
The face, neck, décolletage, hands, arms, legs, abdomen and back can be treated.
How many micro needling treatments are needed?
The number of treatment needed will vary based on your concerns. Typically a series of 3-6 micro needling treatments are recommended. Most treatments are spaced 3-4 weeks apart.
Does Micro Needling hurt?
We have found that by having patients apply a thick coating of lidocaine cream about 30 minutes prior to the procedure will make the treatment tolerable.
Can regular make-up be used following a micro needling treatment?
Because Mineral based make-up cannot build bacteria, patients should use only mineral based make up for 4 days following treatment
What are the typical side effects of Micro Needling?
The following are possible side effects of Micro Needling:
• Sun burned feeling
• Redness
• Sensitivity
• Blotchiness
• Flakiness
• Peeling
• Abrasion (expected with scar reduction)
• Bruising
